                                                                                                                        December 2020
Dear Marshall Area Garden Club, Inc. members,
2020 has been like no other year! I hope that all of you are staying well; and if you, your friends or your families have been affected by illness, know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. To many of us, the Marshall Area Garden Club Inc. has the feeling of family; consequently, those health challenges of our membership are felt by us all.
As 2021 approaches, the Board of Directors of our club is exploring new ways of remaining in touch with the membership, as well as tried and true approaches. A new way of creating connection is through our virtual meetings. If you have not experienced our meetings on Zoom, I urge you to give it a try; the Marshall Public Library and many of your fellow members of MAGCI can help you with this process. Our next online meetings are scheduled for January 19th, with a presentation by the Harvester Flower Shop and February 16th featuring the Marshall Area Farmer’s Market. We hope that we see both new and familiar faces on Zoom. The more many of us use Zoom, the more we like it!
A tried and true approach we are taking is our service outreach to our community. Natalie Rector continues to work with the City of Marshall on our city beautification, and we look forward to planting the Brooks Fountain circle beds and the street urns, assisting Doug Crane with the ongoing Carver Park project, and continuing to build on the shared vision of several MAGCI members with the West Michigan Avenue median project. Also, Carol Riggs and Pam Munsie are working with the garden owners for the July 10 and 11, 2021 Welcome to My Garden Tour. I want to thank our Board of Officers and all committee chairs who have worked to continue our purpose for the greater good of our community throughout the pandemic.
Above all else, I appreciate the membership’s patience with the reality that face-to-face meetings will not be possible until sometime in 2021.  Yes, we miss seeing our long-time friends, enjoying delicious refreshments, and participating in our fast-paced business meetings; however, prudence dictates that we stay virtual for the foreseeable future. The challenge is to stay in touch. If you have comments or questions, please contact me at 269.275.5215 or at llove@olivetcollege.edu, and I look forward to Zooming with you in 2021.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah, and a Healthy New Year,

President, MAGCI
