Successful 2017 "Welcome to My Garden" Tour!

To see a video/slideshow overview of the tour click on the button below. We'd like to thank friend of the club Mary Rio for creating this delightful show.
SLIDESHOW

In addition the the video checkout the bottom half of this page for an overview of each of this year's gardens.
Again this year, we collaborated with the CalCo Quilt Guild that had a show the same weekend, and featured handmade quilts in each garden.  We are delighted to have provided another event to share Marshall’s beauty and hospitality with visitors, many of whom came from other cities and states. It is worth mentioning as well that the proceeds from the Garden Tour will go toward making our city a more beautiful place.  As you admire the plantings around the Fountain Circle, the new work being done on the West End Gardens, and Carver Park, just to name a few, think of the Garden Club!  And, if you missed the tour this year, plan on attending next year as we celebrate our 28th tour.

Plan to visit this web site (www.marshallareagardenclub.org) for more information.  We invite anyone to join who has an interest in gardening and we welcome new members.  Thanks for supporting the Marshall Area Garden Club!

And, a special thanks to Karla and Mike Love for serving as the 2017 “Welcome to My Garden” tour co-chairs - to all the garden owners who worked so hard to show their gardens - and to everyone who helped Karla and Mike make this year's tour another success!!!

Sincerely,
Steve Rhodes, Incoming President

Gehrig Garden: 612 N Kalamazoo

Upon entering the garden, guests were greeted by a beautifully designed water feature and a winding path that lead them through interesting garden beds to the back yard. The wooded back yard was recently cleared and landscaped to create more sunshine for a new swimming pool and family play area, creating the park like vista.

Isham Garden - 735 E. Mansion St

This city lot featured mature trees and shrubs with a canopy providing structural shape, texture, and cover for the shade loving beds below. Garden benches and carefully placed art pieces created focal points where the eye could rest and then continue to take in the beauty of this lovely perennial landscape.

Nager Garden - 126 W Prospect St

Guests felt a sense of Mackinaw Island as they crossed the floating boardwalk and traveled through the picket fence into the Nager garden. One found an assortment of thoughtfully placed perennials, shrubs and flowering ornamental trees, which adorned the fishpond and framed the original carriage house.

Nobbs Garden - 705 W Green St

Delightfully designed spaces transitioned from an eclectic garden to patio spots, followed by landscaped beds that featured carefully tended heirloom plants passed down through the family. The statuary and repurposed objects of art fit well amidst the vibrant perennials backed by a potting shed.

Rhodes Garden - 612 Hill Rd.

Picture
When visiting this garden guests found that the natural approach to hillside gardening dispensed with the mower in favor of ground covers, perennials and  winding paths resulting in a mosaic of green hues accented with pops of white and color.  Guests found an historic restored potting shed that shared space with a bubbling waterfall and stream providing a haven for birds and frogs. Unique to the Rhodes garden were displays of art.

Slick Garden - 324 N Linden St

This backyard gem reminded visitors of an English country design with sun islands of perennials and ornamental trees. Cutting and vegetable gardens completed the visual tapestry. Guests found a natural woodland area behind the garden that is home to walking paths, native plants, birds and small animals and lead to the Garvin Park city wetlands area.

Purcell Garden - 516 S Marshall Ave

This peaceful retreat is located on a busy street by the county fairgrounds.  Once inside the garden, tranquility is achieved through the softness of the plant textures and the coolness of the overhead vines and foliage. A wide variety of unusual perennials, shrubs and ornamental trees offer color and texture to the landscape palette and green backdrops.
